Guidelines for Reefer Cargo Handling

Refrigerated cargo is a significant component of our volumes and we have some guidelines in place to make sure things run smoothly.

Delivering reefer cargo for export

Drivers should have the necessary paperwork with them when they arrive. Global Bayonne reserves the right to void out drivers if they do not have the correct paperwork ready or cannot access it within a reasonable amount of time.

Drivers delivering hazardous reefer loads to the pier must present (2) clean dock receipts with the following information:

1

Container and booking number.

2

Vessel and voyage number.

3

Commodity, hazard class, IMO number, number of packages, packaging group, emergency response number, packaging certificate, and shipper declaration.

4

Temperature setting and ventilation requirements.

Returning empty reefer containers

Gen-sets must be removed or disconnected before the empty container can be grounded. This must be done at the gen-set mounting area.

Dropping a refrigerated container off without being properly processed by the Reefer Department will result in a charge of $174.50

Gen-Set releases for import pick-up

Drivers picking up a live reefer load without a gen-set, must have the ocean carrier update the system to show that no gen-set is required.

Releases should be completed prior to arrival at the terminal to avoid delays.
